This study was undertaken to determine if the level of UV damage at the site of melanomas was correlated with genetic polymorphisms.

Researchers investigated the efficacy of the tumor microenvironment-derived protein S100A8/A9 as a prognostic marker for melanoma patients, also in the setting of immunotherapy. Using a cDNA library and three independent tissue-microarrays (TMA), they analyzed S100A8/A9 gene and protein expression on melanocytic nevi, primary melanomas and metastases.

Given the limited knowledge on how indoor tanning promotes melanoma development, researchers assessed indoor tanning use in patients with melanomas in sun-exposed skin, and analyzed the link between indoor tanning exposure and clinicopathological and molecular features.
