VIDEO: Uveal melanoma outcomes worse in light-skinned patients

In this Healio Video Perspective, Carol Shields, MD, discusses data investigating Fitzpatrick skin type and uveal melanoma presented at the Retina Society meeting.

Fitzpatrick skin type classifies skin color from type 1, which is very white, to type 6, which is very dark.

In a cohort of 854 consecutive patients, “We found those with the lightest skin, Fitzpatrick skin type 1 and 2, the very white skin, have the worse prognosis compared to those with darker skin, 4, 5 and 6,” Shields said.
