Turn your back on solariums – Victoria’s new anti-tanning laws
Sun bed operators will face fines of more than $700,000 if they flout Victoria’s tanning laws.
Health Minister David Davis will write to all solarium operators warning they will be punished if they allow people under 18 and those with fair skin to use solariums, or fail to test new clients and display health warnings.
The letter will also ask businesses to consider training staff in skin typing and introducing rules to check clients’ proof of age.
It comes amid calls from VicHealth and SunSmart Victoria warning solariums are dangerous and should be outlawed, following the NSW Government’s lead.
