Despite the presence of high-risk primary tumors in stage IIB/IIC (8th AJCC) melanoma patients, they follow the same routine to sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) as more low risk tumors.

Researchers conducted this pilot study investigating the value of ultrasound (US) and 18F-FDG PET/CT prior to lymphoscintigraphy (LSG) and SLNB for stage IIB/C melanoma patients.

From April 2019 to January 2020, US of the regional lymph nodes and whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT were performed in all stage IIB/C melanoma patients prior to their planned LSG and SLNB.
