‘Growing gap’ between skin cancer nurse shortfall and increased demand

Almost one in five patients with melanoma do not receive the support of a skin cancer specialist nurse, a snapshot survey by charity Melanoma Focus has found.

A patient survey, carried out as part of a report by the charity, found that 17% of patients with skin cancer said they were not seen by a specialist nurse, despite 97% of hospital trusts in the UK employing skin cancer clinical nurse specialists.

These findings were based on the responses of 82 patients across the UK between March and April 2022.
