Drinking alcohol can cause your skin to burn faster when exposed to the sun, a leading Australian dermatologist has warned.

A recent German study found a 20 per cent increase in melanoma skin cancer for those who drank liquor compared to those who did not drink alcohol or only drank it on occasion.

Tattoos also pose an additional risk as they can make it difficult to identify any potentially dangerous skin lesions, which could be problematic for the 25 per cent of Australians who have tattoos.
