UNDERSTANDING AND APPLYING MODELING IN ECONOMIC EVALUATIONS OF CANCER TREATMENTS

As part of the Cancer Australia Support for Clinical Trials program the Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation (CHERE) has been contracted to establish a dedicated Cancer Research Economics Support Team (CREST) to provide high quality, expert advice and support to the Multi-site Collaborative National Cancer Clinical Trials Groups. Capacity building is a key component of the services available from CREST, and we are pleased to announce a CREST workshop aimed at extending the knowledge of those who have already attended an introductory CREST workshop, or have similar experience.

Economic evaluations usually draw upon a range of data sources, including Randomised Controlled Trials for evidence of clinical effectiveness, surveys for evidence related to quality of life, and administrative data for outcomes such as costs. Decision analytical models provide a method of bringing this evidence together for economic evaluation. This workshop will provide an overview of decision analytical models, as well as giving attendees the opportunity to gain hands on experience of developing basic models.

This workshop is for those who have a basic understanding of economic evaluation theory and / or methods, and who are interested in extending their knowledge of modeling within economic evaluations. It is ideal for those working or interested in cancer research who may encounter health economics in research papers, in policy documents, or who would like to consider how health economics may be incorporated into their own practice or research. Participants to the workshop will receive course notes, including copies of the slides presented on the day, references used as examples throughout the workshop, and additional useful readings.
