New laws to tighten control on solariums will be in place by the end of the year as part of the legacy of a young woman who died of cancer this week, Victorian Premier John Brumby said today.

Clare Oliver, 26, campaigned to raise awareness about the dangers of solariums after she developed the skin cancer, which led to her death yesterday.

In response to Ms Oliver’s campaign, the Victorian government recently announced it would legislate to make the industry’s voluntary code of conduct enforceable by law, with penalties for salons breaching the code.
