Art meets sun safety: ‘The Spot’ sculpture aims to raise melanoma awareness at Bondi

A growing melanoma sculpture, ‘The Spot’, is currently on display at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi. The sculpture, which began at around five metres and continues to expand to over 20 metres wide, was created by two creatives from Ogilvy Health, in collaboration with The Glue Society and The Beautiful and Useful Studio.
The sculpture is not just an art installation, but also carries a significant message about skin sun safety. Over the weekend, the message was reinforced with on-site free skin checks by not-for-profit Skin Check Champions, skin safety education, and sampling through a partnership with La Roche-Posay. The project has been co-funded by Bristol Myers Squibb and La Roche-Posay.
Andrew Hankin, one of the Ogilvy creatives involved in the project, had a sculpture featured in the Exhibition in 2014 – a sun-safety focused piece called ‘We’re frying out here’.
