2013 MMP Scientific Exchange Meeting
The 2013 Melbourne Melanoma Project (MMP) Scientific Exchange Meeting, held on Monday 14th October, was well attended by a mix of patients, survivors, carers, clinicians, health professionals and scientists. MMP called the meeting to keep its stakeholders up to date with the project’s achievements and to ask the melanoma community as a whole
“What areas of melanoma research should scientists focus on?”
Professors Grant McArthur and Jonathan Cebon initially described the work achieved by the current Melbourne Melanoma Project, then outlined some of the technologies that could be adopted in a new MMP project. Using a questionnaire handed out by the MMP Consumer Reference Group (MMP-CRG) as a starting point, both Professors then engaged the audience in a discussion regarding potential research ideas. Questionnaires need to be completed by Sunday 20th October 2013 so the results can be considered prior to the new MMP funding application due in early November.
The final speaker for the evening was Mr Paul White, Chair of the MMP-CRG. Mr White explained the role of the MMP Consumer Reference Group and their underpinning activities to advocate and facilitate melanoma research.
