Prostate-specific membrane antigen expression in melanoma metastases
Source: MDLinx, June 2020
Researchers examined the performance of prostate?specific membrane antigen (PSMA) immunohistochemistry on resected melanoma metastases to determine its use as a diagnostic imaging biomarker for melanoma. Using PSMA immunohistochemistry, they stained 41 stage III/IV melanoma specimens. In all specimens, both disease and control regions were required. Per immunohistochemistry and Western blot, PSMA staining in melanoma consistently and most intensely occurs in tumor neovasculature. Multiplex immunofluorescence indicates that PSMA may also be weakly expressed in melanocytes.
