Two melanoma survivors will mark the finish of a 900km walk from Sydney to Melbourne, aimed at raising vital funds for melanoma research, with a visit to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, before completing their walk at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Andrew Rust is walking the 900-kilometre journey with long-time friend Jay Allen. Both men have both been affected by melanoma; Andrew was diagnosed with stage four melanoma 12 years ago, while Jay was diagnosed with stage three melanoma five years ago.

The men will be welcomed to Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer and home to Australia’s largest cancer research group by members of the melanoma community, including some of Peter Mac’s expert melanoma clinicians and researchers.

The duo began their journey at the Melanoma Institute Australia’s Poche Centre in North Sydney on Friday 11 July and will finish at the MCG during the quarter-time break of the Sydney v Hawthorn match on Saturday 26 July. The two hope to raise $150,000 by the time they reach Melbourne, with money raised contributing to a clinical trial for patients with metastatic melanoma.
