Peter Overton was back on air last night to host the Nine News late bulletin, showing off the result of his emergency surgery.

Last Monday, the 54-year-old veteran TV journalist had melanoma removed after a dermatologist noticed a change in a mole under his hairline.

Last night, he showed off his scar, saying: “The mole was on my right temple, just under the hairline. The incision taking out a margin of flesh around the melanoma in case cancerous spores may have spread.

Like many young women, Rachael Lee spent countless hours in the sun without adequate sun protection and she is now paying a high price for her years of tanning.

The 33-year-old mother-of-two and fiancee of former NRL player Braith Anasta admits she only wore sunscreen on her face growing up, while lathering the rest of her body in tanning oils with little SPF protection.

But she says she never thought she was at risk of getting skin cancer, and has routinely had her skin checked for the past decade.

Nine News Sydney newsreader Peter Overton said “it looks like I’ve been glassed and stitched back together” after surgery to remove a melanoma.

Overton was on the operating table on Monday to remove a mole on his right temple under his hairline which had turned cancerous.

The newsreader said he is “vigilant” about checking his skin checked every three months, and during his last check-up his dermatologist noticed something unusual.

A Toronto journalist who documented her friend’s multi-year journey with cancer, and his efforts to leave behind a legacy for his young son, says she never predicted the experience would help her deal with losing her own father to COVID-19 this year.

“Writing about these last years of Layton’s life helped me in this very unexpected way with coping with, you know, all of the grief that came with losing my dad,” Dakshana Bascaramurty told The Current’s Matt Galloway.

“It was very much informed by … how I focused those last conversations with Layton.”

Launceston resident Kate von Stieglitz thought she was too young to be diagnosed with melanoma at 23 – but she was wrong.

After observing a suspicious-looking spot on her left quad, Ms von Stieglitz, now 24, went to two separate doctors who told her it was nothing to be concerned about.

However, after the spot became more prominent, she decided to seek a third opinion, booking an appointment with a specialist.

A terminally-ill young woman who was diagnosed with cancer more than a year after she was told the lump on her leg was probably a wart has married the love of her life in an emotional ceremony at Sea World Resort.

Ashleigh Simrajh, 23, and Jason Hale said ‘I do’ in front of 50 of their closest family and friends on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Her father Tony said the nuptials were both the saddest and happiest day of his life, after the family’s world was flipped upside down by Ashleigh’s illness.

Ms Beggs was diagnosed with stage three melanoma in September 2017, six months later it progressed to stage four. What started off as a cancerous on her leg metastasised to her lymphnodes, bowel, lung, shoulder and abdomen.
