AJCC Cancer Staging Manual 8th Edition Improves on Reproducibility, Concordance in Melanoma Staging

The recently updated American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Cancer Staging Manual, 8th edition (AJCC 8), shows greater reproducibility and higher concordance with a reference standard compared with AJCC 7, according to results published in JAMA Network Open.

The results suggest that an improved classification of invasive melanoma can be expected with the implementation of AJCC 8, which will likely lead to a positive patient impact. However, the researchers noted that although the AJCC 8 has improvements compared with AJCC 7, concordance and reproducibility remain low.
